Normally the research work I do for Facebook is product based; We go to a place to learn how they feel or would feel about a certain feature. In this case, the research was foundational, this is to say that we weren't going to learn about how the population relates to a particular thing, but rather their core values and beliefs.
Buying chicken feet and neck to cook.
We spent all day following individual subjects, making mini documentaries about each. As always with Facebook projects I'm under NDA and can't disclose specific findings.
But I can say that It has never been as fulfilling to point my camera at things as it was on this trip. Everywhere I looked there was life existing in a way I'd never seen before, and I'm really hoping to do more of this sort of research in 2017!
