"Central Park Dark" is a feature film written, directed by, and co-starring Cybil Lake. Tom Sizemore played the lead role, that of a married man seeking to rekindle an old affair. In successfully doing so, he finds that his old flame, Cybil, is not the low maintenance type.
One of the AC's on my last project, "We Be Nurses", who himself was a great DP, commented that my shooting style was very bright, and that I should try embracing shadow. Central Park Dark came across my desk a few weeks later, and it seemed like the perfect opportunity to do some higher contrast lighting.
We had 2 primary locations; Tom's apartment and Central Park (night). For the interiors we used a c100 on a shoulder rig, and for the exteriors we used an a7sii. We used a mix of nikkor primes and vintage russian lenses to get some funky flares.
CPD was an excellent opportunity for me to experiment with looks that I hadn't had the opportunity to play with in the past, and got me excited to make more shadows in the future.
